The exhibition entitled: Manuals at Gallery Moon in Tokyo consists mainly of drawing works. These are works made on crafted paper with irregular shapes as well as small drawing objects. Wojciech Pukocz’s drawings illustrate everyday life. The depicted figures, dressed in tracksuits, pyjamas or prison clothes, perform activities established by routine and necessity: they take a nap, pray, return from shopping, numb themselves for a while in mindlessness, remaining notoriously lonely. Nothing untoward happens, as if the lives of these characters have been programmed or follow some general, universal instruction to act. What is surprising is that these characters are apparently rats disguised as humans. It is also possible that they are humans who are slowly and effectively, as instructed, transformed into uncomplicated rats. The author of another group of drawings and drawing objects is Przemek Pintal. Simplified human figures, fragments of their bodies reduced to a sign, seem to be entangled in relations with other, half-human half-abstract forms. At times, the abstract forms are arranged into signs or messages that are not always comprehensible. Their complexity and insistent intensity bear the hallmarks of persuasion and agitation and not always friendly interaction. Regardless of the shape of the scenes and situations depicted, the artists focus on the fate of the individual, who is thrown onto the stage of life by a bizarre coincidence, which then changes and deforms him or her, putting all kinds of endurance to the test.

PRZEMEK PINTAL
He studied art history at the Faculty of Philosophy and History at the University of Wrocław and painting at the Faculty of Painting, Graphic Arts, and Sculpture at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznań and Wrocław. Currently a professor at the Drawing Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, he runs a drawing studio, an intermedia actions studio, and a multimedia studio. I am interested in exploring the relationships between oppositional phenomena on many levels of reality. My artistic practice is experimental, unfolding at the intersection of the self and shared reality, between consciousness and the unconscious. It involves developing an approach that addresses fundamental questions—an approach that allows me to delve freely into the depths of the world, to engage in the process of taming the ‘lurking’ chaos, without fear of losing my orientation.
